Fortunately for those of us who prefer a dash of individuality to today's cultural uniformity, there are many communities preserving their independent film and theater venues so we can enjoy sing a longs to classic films,  cinema festivals celebrating various points of view, and just plain fun and funky evenings of offbeat entertainment and, often, decent food and drink.
